Doris Burkholder

Doris A. Burkholder, age 90, of Platteville, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. She was born on January 16, 1926, in Platteville, the daughter of William and Gretta (VanNatta) Wolf. Doris worked many years as a cook at Taylor's Cafe in Platteville. She also farmed with her parents and her Uncle Harry Wolf. Doris was the proud mother of two sons. She married Raymond Burkholder in 1962. Doris enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, roller-skating, doing puzzles, playing the guitar, traveling to Wyoming, horses and collecting angels.

Survivors include her two sons: Jerry (Julie) Letcher, Lancaster; William (Lisa) Letcher, Chugwater, WY; her special friend, Tiny, her dog; eight grandchildren; many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren on the way; two sisters: Pauline Chandler, Platteville; June Zart, Mineral Point; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husbands; three sisters; one brother; her uncle; one granddaughter and her brothers-in-law.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Private family burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Platteville on Monday, October 17, 2016. Family and friends called on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Doris A. Burkholder Memorial Fund has been established.
