POTOSI – Donald J. Udelhofen age 81, of Potosi, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at UW Hospitals and Clinics. He was born August 16, 1942, the son of Bernard and Anita (McReynolds) Udelhofen. Don graduated Platteville High School in 1960. He served in the United States Army during the Berlin Airlift in Washington. On June 30, 1963, Don was united in marriage to Doris M. Elskamp at St Andrews Catholic Church in Tennyson. Don was employed at Hauber Meats and Kowalski-Kieler. He later went to work at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works as a welder for over 38 years, retiring in 2004. Together Don and Doris operated the Elskamp Family Farm in Potosi Township. He was a member of the Uppena-Kroepfle American Legion Post #473 and St Andrew Catholic Church. He enjoyed deer and coon hunting, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and riding his side by side every day.
Surviving is his wife: Doris; children: Kim (Rod) Meier and Kevin (Jeannie) Udelhofen; five grandchildren: Chad (Heather) Meier, Brandon (Kim) Meier, Kylie (Myles) Leahy, Logan and Jase Udelhofen; five great grandchildren, his twin brother: Ron (Helen) Udelhofen; a sister: Phyllis Genthe; a sister-in-law: Joanne Udelhofen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Kyle; his siblings: Bob (Florence), Jake, Jerry (Marylou) Udelhofen and Kay Herbsled, and a brother-in-law: Harold Genthe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, with Fr. Mark Miller officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the St. Andrew Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is assisting the family.
