Donald J. Metcalf, age 82, of Cassville, died on Monday, June 15, 2015, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. He was born on September 19, 1932, in Glen Haven Township, the son of Allen and Marie (Vogt) Metcalf. Donald attended grade school at St. Mary's and the Brick School in Glen Haven Township. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950. On September 10, 1957, Donald was united in marriage to Deloris A. Wieland at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from May 1953 to May 1955. After returning from the Army he farmed the family farm until December 2000 when he retired and moved to Cassville. During corn picking season, Donald worked at Pride, Northrup King, and Golden Harvest from 1960 to 2004. He was also a substitute janitor at the Cassville Schools from 1999 to 2014. Donald worked at Stonefield Village for three seasons. He enjoyed his flower garden and took pride in his lawn. Donald loved playing cards, especially Euchre. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington for 54 years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Deloris Metcalf, Cassville; his children: Bruce (Amy) Metcalf, Winnsboro, TX; Cindy Metcalf, Platteville; three grandchildren, Charles (Heather) Metcalf, Fulton, IL; Matthew (fianc Nikki Arata) Metcalf, Menomonee Falls; Mikayla Metcalf, Winnsboro, TX; and two nieces.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Bradley; a brother-in-law, Walter Bradley; and a granddaughter, Jodi Ann Metcalf.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, June 19, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington was in Charlotte Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Family and friends called on Thursday, June 18, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville where a 4:45 parish scripture service was held. Friends also called on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Donald J. Metcalf Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville is serving the family.
