Donald C. Wetter

Donald C. Wetter, age 85, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at Grant Regional Health Center. Donald was born on June 28, 1927 in Little Grant Township, the son of Clarence and Letha (Hore) Wetter.

He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1945. In that same year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. Donnie married Velma K. Edge on June 18, 1952 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Together they farmed in Little Grant Township on the Wetter family farm. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2344. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, but especially enjoyed fishing. He dearly loved his family and took great pride in his grandchildren.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Velma; two daughters, Julie Wetter Briel (John Briel) and Jill (Paul) Udelhoven; four grandchildren, Chloe and Sawyer Briel, and Michelle Udelhoven and Michael (fiance Krystal Holmes) Udelhoven; two brothers, Stanley and Harold (Dorothy) Wetter; a brother-in-law, George (Betty) Edge; a sister-in-law, Mercedes Mumm; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-in-law, Aleise Wetter and Marion Leifer; a brother-in-law, William Mumm; nephews, Roger and Darrell Edge, Richard and Jim Mumm; and a nephew-in-law, Gene Hottenstein.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial with military honors was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 4pm to 8 pm at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Martin Funeral Home, Lancaster is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Donald C. Wetter memorial fund has been established.
