Donald B Teter

Donald B. Teter, age 80, of Lancaster and formerly of Prairie du Chien, WI, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. He was born in Cedar Falls, IA, on July 18, 1938 the son of John Weston and Edna Marie (Rhoads) Teter. Donald studied Police Science at the DeVry Technical School and joined the Chicago Police Department. He went on to become a deputy sheriff in Blackhawk County, IA, and then served as chief of police in Janesville, IA. Donald married Ginette Cousin on June 3, 1961 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. He worked for John Deere for a short time, and in addition to farming, Donald trained as a welder at the Price Labs school. He operated his own welding repair business, specializing in mending aluminum and stainless steel. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved his guns. He also enjoyed camping, photography, and spending time with family and friends.

Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ginette Teter; two children: Sylviane (Daniel) Teter-Manning, and Daniel Teter; four grandchildren: Michael (Rhianna) Teter, Danielle (Jacob) Augsburger, Zane Decker, and Cheri Decker; and one great-grandson, Henry Augsburger.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Teter.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Reverend Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories in Waterloo, IA, at a later date. Family and friends may call on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Donald B. Teter Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Lancaster is entrusted with his services.
