Don M. Verger, age 84, professor emeritus, University of Wisconsin Platteville, died on Friday, February 11, 2011, at his home in Platteville. He was born on October 17, 1926, in Rock Island , IL , the son of John and Blanche (Sousna) Verger. He was married to Wilma Spacek on June 11, 1959. Don was a member of the UW-Platteville Psychology Department for twenty-nine years and served as chairman for ten years. A 1952 graduate of the University of Illinois , he received his doctorate at the University of Oregon in 1965. In 1971, he completed his postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina Medical School, Chapel Hill . He was a member of the Wisconsin Psychological Association and a past member of the American Psychological Association. A veteran of World War II, Don served over seas with the 97th Calvary .
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Verger, Platteville; a daughter, Dr. Lynn (Scott Baumann) Verger, Platteville; and a grandson, Andrew Verger, Platteville.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Rosa Ziffrin.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville with Rabbi Jennifer Flatte officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery , Platteville. There was no visitation. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to the Abraham Low Self-Help Systems, formerly Recovery Inc., Platteville Chapter.
