Dennis S. "Denny" Peterson

Dennis S. "Denny" Peterson, age 71, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at his residence. He was born on May 12, 1946, in Platteville, the son of Sydney and Ivanell (Hartnett) Peterson. Denny graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. On August 27, 1966, he was united in marriage to Carole J. Funk. Together they farmed on the Peterson family farm with his father, Sydney and brother, Terry, which included a cattle business on Peterson Farms. Denny served his country in the United States Army and Army National Guard. Denny and Carole also owned and operated Peterson Acres. He attended the Christ Lutheran Church, was a member of West Grant Saddle Club, BPOE No. 1460, served as president of the Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association, and was a member of the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109 of Lancaster. Over the years, Denny and Carole sponsored the Peterson Acres men's softball team. Denny was also employed at Kowalski-Kieler Ready Mix and for over ten years at Fuller's Milker Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, a good game of cards with Larry and Pam Wolf, and his trips up North. Denny loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Carole; daughters: Crystal (Mark) Weber; Misty (Shane) Crowley; grandchildren: Joshua and Sydney Weber; Taron and Trasen Crowley; his sister, Sherry Peterson; a brother, Terry (Sandy) Peterson; sister-in-law, Judith (Jerome) Wehrle; brother-in-law, David (Ann) Funk; many nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Ivanell and Ivanell's second husband, Gail Tanner; his father and mother-in-law, Donald (Hazel) Funk; a nephew, Christopher Elliott.

Funeral services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison St., Lancaster, with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Dennis S. Peterson Memorial Fund has been established.
