LANCASTER – Dennis M. "Denny" Morgan, age 68, of Lancaster, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, August 26, 2017, after a courageous 5-year battle with lymphoma. He was born on May 17, 1949 in Prairie du Chien, the son of Ralph and Mary Lou (Moris) Morgan. Dennis graduated from West Grant High School in 1968, then attended Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, becoming a member of the first graduating class in 1969. He was happily united in marriage to Diane Sherwin on June 23, 1973 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Dennis was a welder and electrician at John Deere in Dubuque from 1972 until 2009, and was a member of the UAW – local 94. After his retirement, he worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Dennis served his country in the Army National Guard for 20 years, and was a member of the Lancaster City Council for over 35 years. He was also an active member of St. Clement Catholic Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. In his early years, Dennis was a drummer in a country band and spent time as a Rodeo clown. His hobbies included being a licensed H.A.M. Radio operator, and he was a member of the Hidden Valleys Amateur Radio Club. He was also a lifetime Green Bay Packer fan.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; three children: Stacey (Ross) Huffman; Steve (Tara) Morgan; Daniel (Christy) Morgan; twelve grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, and Sara Huffman; Joseph and Jacob Jeardeau, Mackenzie, Ty, Jessica, Addison, and Cooper Morgan; and William and James Morgan; brothers and sisters: Barbara Meng; Linda (Butch) Quick; Mary Redman; Dorothy (Dave) Holtz; Bob (Connie) Morgan; Donna (Mike) McKinney; Betty (Jon) Cooley; Kathy (Ron) Knapp; Patrick Morgan; Michael (Cindy) Morgan; Rita Morgan; Bill (Nancy) Morgan; and Christy (Brian) Krause; mother-in-law, Kathleen Sherwin; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Morgan, Margie Sherwin and Carol Sherwin; brothers-in-law, Terry Laufenberg and Joe Sherwin; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two goddaughters: Dulcie Holtz and Amy Morgan Haase.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: James Morgan, Laurie Laufenberg, and Philip Morgan; father-in-law, Donald Sherwin; brothers-in-law, Dave Redman and Jim Sherwin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend William Ve rnon officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the St. Clement Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 31, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster, where a 4:00 p.m. prayer service will be held. Friends may also call on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of plants and flowers a Dennis M. Morgan memorial fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Lancaster is serving the family.
