Dennis L. Duncan

Dennis L. Duncan, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on April 6, 1930, in Glen Haven, the first son of Jeff and Elsie (Skinner) Duncan. On June 30, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lillian "Bid" Reynolds. Denny was a lifelong carpenter, working for Elwell & Reynolds from 1959 until 1983, at that point, he and his son, Don, purchased the business, which then became Duncan Construction. Don, Gary, and Denny worked side-by-side until Denny retired in 1993. In retirement, he was employed at the Lancaster Care Center for over 11 years. Denny enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, and fishing. Denny and Bid attended the Beetown United Methodist Church. Family was most important to them as they loved getting together to camp or have a cook out at the home farm.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Bid; three children: Cheryl Blackbourn, Don (Phyllis), and Gary Duncan; eight grandchildren: Tyler (Lynn), Travis (Wendy) Blackbourn; Kelly (Kevin Terrell) Duncan; Kim (Aaron) Pollar; Dan (Courtney), Chase, Andrea, Shaina Duncan; six great-grandchildren: Gavin, twins Colin and Luke, Brody Blackbourn; Bentley and Tayte Duncan; sisters-in-law: Shirley Duncan, Ramona and Connie Reynolds.

Denny was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Blackbourn; a daughter-in-law, Rose Duncan; his parents; a sister, Iona "Sis" (Gerald) Mayne; a brother, Norman Duncan; brothers-in-law: Hobart, Marshall (Jeanine), Delano "Bud" Reynolds; a sister-in-law, Wilma (Robert) Sisley; and many members of the Duncan and Reynolds family.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at 12:00 noon at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster, with Pastor Mark Weaver and Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Dennis L. Duncan Memorial Fund has been established.
