Dennis Hammes

Dennis Hammes, age 55, of Lancaster, formerly of Platteville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 31, 2024.  Dennis was born on December 20, 1968, in Hanau, Germany, the son of Robert and Joyce Hammes.  Dennis attended school in Platteville.  In 1989, he was united in a spiritual union with Cheri (Klaas) Jerrett and her son John Klaas, III.  They shared many adventures together.  In 1996, they welcomed their son, Alex “AJ” and their family was complete. Dennis worked many jobs over the years, taking pride in each one.  He was custodian at St. Mary’s School and Church in Platteville and took a lot of joy in working with the staff and students.  In recent years, he managed the “Windmill” in Montfort and most recently was employed at Saputo in Lancaster and self-employed doing custodial work.  Dennis loved to spend time with his family and friends and could always bring a smile to your face.  Those who knew him would tell you that he had a heart of gold and would help anyone.   He loved fishing, hunting, morel hunting, playing poker and taking his chances on a lottery ticket or two.  Dennis will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of spending time with him

Survivors include his son, Alex “AJ” Hammes, Lancaster; AJ’s mother, Cheri (Roger) Jerrett, Lancaster; his stepson: John (Kelli Riley) Klaas, Dickeyville and their son Jordan Klaas, Platteville; his mother, Joyce Giese, Plover; his siblings: Daniel Hammes, Plover, Robby Hammes, Green Bay, Paula (Kevin) Williams, Potosi; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his father, Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Ann Hammes.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. The burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
