CASSVILLE – Deloris A. Metcalf, age 87, of Cassville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on November 15, 1934, in South Lancaster Township, the daughter of William and Opal (Hodival) Wieland. Deloris attended Boice Creek grade school in Potosi Township and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked at the Rainbow Grill, under the ownership of the late Louis and Grace Belscamper and for the late Dr. R.J. Becker, DDS of Lancaster. In 1952, Deloris received the State 4-H Award in frozen food. On September 10, 1957, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Metcalf at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Together they farmed in Glen Haven Township from 1957 until 2000, when they retired and moved to Cassville. Deloris took great pride in her gardens, flowers, canning, and manicured lawn while on the farm. She will be remembered for the large trays of Christmas candy that she made and shared with many friends and teachers in Cassville. Deloris had many hobbies that included a pencil collection, salt and pepper shaker collection, obituary scrapbooks, and many other collectables that groups were invited to her home to view and enjoy. She also recycled over 4000 All Occasion cards for the St. Charles Catholic Church. During her spare time, Deloris enjoyed watching the birds and deer in her yard, talking to family and friends, playing cards, and watching BIG10 sports, especially her beloved Hawkeyes. She is proud to say she witnessed the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 2016.
Survivors include her children: Bruce Metcalf and Cindy Metcalf; her grandchildren: Charlie, Matthew (Nikki) and Mikayla Metcalf; one great-granddaughter, Rosie Metcalf; sister-in-law, Arlene Roesch; daughter-in-law, Sharon Sweet; special nieces: Judy (Bill) Leeser and Marcia (Wieland) Olson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Deloris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald, on June 15, 2015; her siblings: Clara Mae Scott, Hazel Brinkman, Marion (Stark) Hirsch, Evelyn Pierce, Virgil "Bud" Wieland, and LeRoy Wieland; a granddaughter, Jodi Ann Metcalf; a nephew, Norbert (Arlene) Wieland; in-laws: Allen and Marie Metcalf and Doris (Walter) Bradley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in Charlotte Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. The family requests those in attendance of the visitation and funeral wear BIG10 apparel or a team of your choice. In lieu of plants and flowers a Deloris A. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Cassville Rescue Squad, doctors, and nurses at Grant Regional Health Center for their compassion and excellent care of Deloris during her illnesses.
