LANCASTER - Dean W. Hinrichs, age 79, of Fort Myers, Fla, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at his home in Florida.
He was born on January 23, 1941, in Littleport, Iowa, the son of Louis and Florence (Smith) Hinrichs.
He married the late Jean Allbee on Sept. 19, 1959. They lived in Potosi, where they had a small hobby farm. Dean worked at John Deere in Dubuque, for 31 years. After retiring, Dean and Jean traveled around the United States until Jean passed away in 1997.
By the grace of God and a friend’s matchmaking efforts, Dean met another wonderful woman, Judy Mook. Dean and Judy were married on June 10, 2000, and they lived in Lancaster, until 2014. They moved to Fort Myers in 2014.
Dean loved to hunt and fish and to take long walks on the beach with Judy collecting shells. Whenever anyone needed help, he was always eager to lend a hand. He loved garage sales, playing bocce ball, collecting John Deere items, and riding his bicycle.
Surviving are his wife, Judy Hinrichs, of Fort Myers, a daughter, Dawn (Todd) Rickard, a son, William (Rebecca) Hinrichs, stepdaughters, Cindy (Pat) Cochran, Charlene (Jim) Ackerman, Cheryl Waugh, a stepson, John (Sandy) Mook, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, sisters, Jo Ann (Dale) Landis, Sharon (Philip) Curran, and Phyllis. He also has several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean, brother, Keith Hinrichs, and his great granddaughter, Mya Gleason.
A memorial for Dean Hinrichs was held on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 11 a.m. in Fort Myers at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 14531 Old Olga Rd., in Fort Myers.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020, at Hurricane Cemetery, South Lancaster Township at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Pam Strakeljahn officiating. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is serving the family.
