David O. Olson

David O. Red Olson, age 88, of Cassville, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, at his home, with his son, Davin, by his side. He was born on February 10, 1926, the son of Morris and Olga (Sether) Olson. He graduated from Dodgeville High School. Red enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge. He was employed with the Alliant Energy Power Plant in Cassville until his retirement in 1990. In his earlier years, Red enjoyed playing several musical instruments in a band. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as reading and listening to Hank Williams. Red loved to talk, tell stories, visit with family and would lend a helping hand to anyone. He also enjoyed machining and could make just about anything. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. Reds family was very important to him. It was because of his grandson, Dillon, that Red was able to spend his last few months at home.

Survivors include his children: Beverly Olson, Richland Center; James (Toni) Olson, Richland Center; John (Karen) Olson, Highland; Melanie (Bob) Johnson, Richland Center; Darvin Olson, Richland Center; Davin Shrev (Virginia) Olson, Cassville; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his brother, Lute and his sister, Ruby.

Family and friends called on Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville. Graveside services were in Avoca Cemetery, Avoca, with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating.
