David C. Hoffman

November 19, 1944 — March 30, 2025

Bloomington

David Clarence Hoffman, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. David was born on the family farm near Glen Haven, WI, on November 19, 1944, the son of Clarence and Luella (Bausch) Hoffman. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1962, and following, he worked beside his dad until he took over the farm himself. Upon retirement, he moved to the house his father built for his retirement in Bloomington, never straying far from family ties and the land he loved.

On October 28, 1967, David married the love of his life, Judith Brodt. Together they raised three daughters, creating a home filled with warmth, humor and a hard work ethic. David found great joy in being a father and later a grandfather. He cheered in the stands at sporting events and could be found pressing “record” on the tape recorder at every music performance. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially enjoyed sharing deer hunting season with his grandsons.

David had a big heart and a great sense of humor. His one-liners and hearty laugh could light up a room, and he never missed a chance to make someone smile. Whether he was playing cards, shooting pool with friends or just sitting around swapping stories, he enjoyed the simple things and the people around him.

He was active at St. Mary’s Church in Bloomington, serving as an usher for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He believed in helping his neighbors, showing up when someone needed a hand, and doing what was right – even when no one was watching.

David will be remembered as a kind, reliable man with a quiet influence, quick wit and a great love for his family, his farm and the people around him. He made a difference just by being himself, and he will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Judith; their children: Vicki (Kevin O’Brien) Hoffman, Pamela (Scott) Brookens, Catherine (Christopher) Gotto; four grandchildren: Zachary Gotto, Tyler (Katelyn Wood) Brookens, Haley Gotto, Samantha Brookens; one brother, Robert (Jeannie Richards) Hoffman; one sister Marlene (Roger) Miles.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his siblings: Gary Hoffman and Carole Wagner.
