It is with deep sadness and heavy regret to announce David B. Wood, age 59, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015. He was born on January 24, 1955, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Lois and the late Robert "Dean" Wood. He married Patricia S. Esser on November 3, 1990, at St. Charles Catholic Church.
Dave is a 1973 graduate of Cassville High School and earned his CDL and Heavy Equipment Operator licenses from Diesel Truck Driver Training School in Sun Prairie. He worked as an equipment operator-fuels in the coal yard at Alliant Energy for 15 years. Prior to his years at Alliant Energy, Dave worked on the Wood family farm. Dave was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for and attending many Brewers, Packers, Badgers, and Cassville Comets games. He loved golf and especially enjoyed playing with his sons even when they beat him! Daves warmth, kindness, love, and incredible sense of humor were appreciated by all those who were lucky enough to know him.
A treasured husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, nephew, cousin, godparent, co-worker, and friend, Dave is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Patti; two children: Joshua & Jacob of Cassville; his mother, Lois of Cassville; three sisters: Janet (Tim) Hess & Kathy (Pete) Stohs of Cassville, Lori (Rich) Bailey of Dodgeville; parents-in-law: Chris & Mary Ila Esser of Cassville; sisters-in-law: Ann (Harvey) Morley of Cuba City, Lisa (Jeff) Somerville of Hudson, Beth (Derek) Esser Peterson of Monona; many beloved nieces & nephews, and dog, Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Dean" Wood.
The family would like to thank all of the many Team Dave supporters-No One Fights Alone. Special thanks to the Cassville Ambulance volunteers, Glen Haven First Responders, the wonderful staff at Grant Regional Health Center, Dr. Sheirlie Lamantia, and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, especially his oncologist Dr. Dusty Deming, nurses Anica and Jen and numerous others.
A Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Daves 60th birthday, Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with Fr. John Meinholz and Msgr. Jim Uppena officiating. Burial will be in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven. Family and friends called on Friday, January 23, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church where a 3:45 p.m. parish scripture service was held. Friends also called on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a David B. Wood Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville is assisting the family. Well see you at Table #4, Dave!
