Davey L. White, Sr., age 88, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born April 14, 1930 in Potosi, the son of John and Helen (Kuster) White. Davey attended grade school in Ellenboro and graduated from Platteville High School in 1949. On May 18, 1956, he married Donna Jean Dixon at the Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi; they spent fifty-three and a half years of marriage together before Donna passed in 2010. Davey worked hard his whole life to provide for his family. He was a self-employed truck driver, hauling for Dubuque Sand and Gravel, and Becker and Tuckwood Trucking. Davey also ran the Rockville Tavern, Ellenboro Bar, Eagles Club, and White’s Tap. Following retirement, he drove cars for many years for Les Mack. Davey was a member of the Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi, and the Free and Accepted Masons of Wisconsin – Warren Lodge #4 in Potosi. He was honored with many Masonic service awards over the years, including the highest award given, the Grand Master’s Masonic Meritorious Service Award – an award he received in 2012 from his son, Davey Jr.
Davey is survived by five children: Robin (Bill) Yoose, Danny (Theresa) White, Davey (Tammi) White, Jr., Rhonda (Daniel) White-Stelpflug, and John (Holly Polkinghorn) White; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; four siblings: William “Bill” (Liz) White, Mary Lou (Ivan) Littlejohn, Lucetta (Dennis) Cardey, and Verlyn (Betty) White; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Davey was preceded in death by his grandson, Gregory White; and three brothers: Richard, Dale, and Eugene White.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi with Dave Ritchie officiating. Burial will be in the Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi. Visitation will also take place from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, where a Masonic service will be held at 10:45 a.m., followed by the religious funeral service at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Davey L. White Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is entrusted with his services.
