Darlene M. Blackbourn

Darlene Marie Blackbourn, age 84, of Platteville, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023.  Darlene was the eldest of two children, born in Platteville on March 23, 1939, the daughter of Earl and Gladys (Walker) Blackbourn.  Darlene grew up on a farm located between Beetown and Cassville and moved to Platteville where she graduated from High School in 1957.  Darlene had many hobbies, including gardening, canning and collecting cookbooks.  She worked for nearly 40 years at the Platteville Municipal Hospital before retiring.  Darlene was a lifelong member of the First English Lutheran Church.  Her caring and kind character extended beyond her family to all who knew her.

Darlene is survived by her sister: Norma Holt; niece, Diane Mato of Naples FL; nephews, Jay Holt of Sarasota, FL and Brian Holt of San Diego, CA.; 7 great nephews; and dear friends: Butch and Julie Speth of Stoughton, WI. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and longtime companion, James Speth, of Belmont, WI.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Belmont Cemetery with Pastor Brenda Crossfield officiating.  Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville is assisting the family.
