Dale Phelps

Dale L. Phelps, age 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015, following a brief illness, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. He was born on July 15, 1923, in Elkport Iowa the son of Levi and Katherine (Wentz) Phelps. Dale graduated from Cassville High School in 1941. He worked several jobs before his career began in 1958 with Braniff Airlines. He worked various positions in Rockford, IL., Rochester, MN, and Des Moines, IA., He married Lucille M. Mergen on September 26, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glen Haven. After 29 years in the airline industry, Dale retired in 1982. He and Lucille then moved to Prairie du Chien, Cassville, and in their later years to Lancaster. He enjoyed family reunions, carpentry, woodworking, big band music and church dinners. He loved his family and keeping up with their activities

Surviving is his wife Lucille, their children, Darrel Phelps, Angela (Roger Moots) Conklin, Monica (Luis Morales) Mains, and Christopher (Jenny) Phelps, a granddaughter Susan Conklin and a nephew, Robert "Red" Walsh.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Walsh, and her children, Patrick "Terry", Sharlene "Kay", Lawrence "Tob" Walsh, and Patsy Jean Holden.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster. Burial was in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Family and friends called on Thursday from 12:00 p.m., noon, until time of services. The Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.
