Clayton B. Leighty, age 90, of Platteville, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Gray's Nursing Home in Platteville, following a short illness. Clayton was born to Benjamin and Kathryn Floerke on April 16, 1927. He was later adopted by his aunt and uncle, Charles A. and Bertha Leighty. Clayton worked at newspapers in Platteville, Lancaster and Morrison, IL, as a print setter. He worked at Vanguard Counter Tops in Dubuque, IA, until he started his own business, Leighty Trucking. Clayton delivered countertops all over Iowa until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked many years for Tri-State Auction in Cuba City as a driver and the night watchman. Clayton was a friend to many and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He rode motorcycle with his wife, Shirley, for many years. Clayton enjoyed fishing, especially with his good friends, Nylan and Betty Curley at the cottage in Prairie du Chien.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley, Platteville; daughter, Vicki (Kelly) Flynn, Platteville; and his grandson, KJ Flynn, who was his pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, Clayton was preceded in death by his in-law, Laverne and LeNore Robins; his first wife, Helen Jones; two grandsons, Steven Allen Leighty and Daniel Oscar Hildreth, Jr.
To honor Clayton's wishes, there will be no services. Private family burial will be at a later date. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville is entrusted with his care.
The family wants to thank Dr. White, Dr. Norton, and the staff of Gray's Nursing Home for the great care for Clayton.
