Clayton A. Martin, age 76, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. He was born on June 23, 1934, the son of Arthur and Elva (Ellis) Martin. Clayton married Dorothy B. Hardy on June 27, 1952, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Platteville. After their marriage, he farmed, drove milk tuck and worked for the Montfort Telephone Company. From 1957 until 1959, he was stationed in Germany in the United States Army. Clayton was later employed at Farmer's Telephone Company in Lancaster. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and antique tractors. Clayton and Dorothy loved to square dance together. In 1970, he received his diploma from the National Radio Institute and was licensed as a Ham Radio Operator.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Martin, Lancaster; a daughter: Vicky (Mark) Schweitzer; two grandchildren: Jodi Schweitzer and Shane Schweitzer, all of Belmont; one brother, Brenton (Joan) Martin; two nephews, Wayne (Bea) Martin and Merle (Tammy) Martin, all of Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Mildred Kelly, Dubuque, IA.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents and many members of the Hardy family.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial with military honors was held in Farview Cemetery, Liberty Township. Family and friends called on Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
