Clarence J. "Zippy" Reuter, age 71, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019, at his home. He was born on June 22, 1947, the son of Reaford and Letha (Zenz) Reuter. Zippy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1966. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War stationed in Vietnam and Korea. On November 17, 1970, Zippy was united in marriage to Coleen M. Steele at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. He was employed for a brief time in Belvidere, IL, later to return to Lancaster and was employed with the Grant County Herald Independent. Zippy owned and operated Zip Print and later worked for Howe Printing in Prairie du Chien. He enjoyed any type of fishing, that included many trips to Canada. Zippy was a member of the Lancaster Country Club and golfed on the Wednesday evening league. He was also a member of the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department, Abraham-Hickock-Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington and the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109 of Lancaster. Zippy was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers and enjoyed a good game of cards. He dearly loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his two sons: Cory (Bobbie Kramer) Reuter and Chad (Brenda) Reuter; grandchildren: Justin, Stephanie (Eric) Vogt, Sam, and Riley Reuter; three great-grandchildren: Silas, Madison, and Kylee; his former wife, Coleen; his siblings: Robert (Janet), Rita (Don) Pennekamp, Marilyn Kafar, Dennis (Glenda), and Delbert (Barb) Reuter; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Zippy was preceded in death by his parents, Reaford and Letha Reuter; two sisters: Theresa and Linda Reuter; two brothers-in-law: Darrell Cathman and Roger Kafar.
A Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Vernon officiating. Private family burial will be held in Blake's Prairie Cemetery, Bloomington at a later date. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., where a 2:45 p.m. scripture service will be held at St. Clement Catholic Church. Family and friends may also call on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Zippy Reuter Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is entrusted with his care.
