Charles Stagman

August 15, 1929 — April 18, 2020

Charles Stagman, age 90, of Bagley, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. He was born on August 15, 1929, the son of Clarence and Mary (Levens) Stagman. On June 8, 1951, Charles was united in marriage to Helen Bean at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Bagley for 42 years. Charles worked for Wyalusing Township, Tubbs & Marshall Excavating, and owned and operated his own logging and bulldozing business. In 1953, Charles and Dwayne Kramer implemented the first 4th of July celebration in Eastman. He was very active within the Bagley community. Charles served as the Bagley Village president for 21 years, was a member of the Lion's Club for 9 years, was a volunteer for the Bagley Fire Department for 31 years. He also served as the Millville Township Board member for 9 years. He enjoyed baseball, softball, mushroom and ginseng hunting, berry picking and picking up nuts to crack in the winter. Charles' favorite hobby was deer hunting, which he participated in up to 90 years of age. He dearly loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his children: Gregory (Tami) Stagman; Gale (Sparky) Gardner; Grandchildren: Zachary (fiancé Lynelle Hinkley) Stagman, Lacey Newman, Matthew (Kassey) Stagman, Kyle (Jennafer) Johnston, Katrina (Darren) Baxter, Cody (Cait) Gardner, and Tyler (Kim) Gardner; Great-Grandchildren: Ava and Brynn Newman, Harrison and Sloan Johnston, Jakson and Teagan Gardner; step-siblings: Arthur (Marilyn) and Ronald (Diane) Pitzer and Burnita (John) Johnson Gokey; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his stepfather, Jay Pitzer, Charles was preceded in death by a son, Gary in 2009, and his wife, Helen in 2015; brothers, Gene and Clarence Stagman, Jr.; stepsiblings: Robert, Jim, and Wesley Pitzer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is entrusted with his care.
