Charles E. Wallin, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 11, 2012.

He was born on September 29, 1926, to Charles and Marian (Horal) Wallin in rural Eastman. Charles graduated from Seneca High School in 1944 and served with the army of occupation in Japan. On June 30, 1948, he married Beverly Powers. They later settled in Lancaster and raised seven children. Charles retired after 32 years in the foundry at John Deere in Dubuque. Early on they enjoyed motorcycles and were members of the Lucky Lancers motorcycle club. Later they became members of the Snoopy SnoGoers Snomobile club. Charles and Bev also enjoyed boating and fishing on the Mississippi with many friends and many Canada fishing trips as well. Traveling was enjoyed and after retirement they spent winters in Texas. Charles was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 2820, the American Legion Post No. 109 and the VFW Post No. 2344 both of Lancaster. He was well known for his talents as a carpenter and mechanic.

 Charles is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Beverly Wallin, Lancaster; his children: Dee (John) Medinger, LaCrosse; Linda (Mark) Clement, Rancho Cordova, CA; Carl (Robyn) Wallin, St. Paul, MN; Mary Chapman, Lancaster; Ann (Ray) Anderson, Gays Mills; Randy (Kim) Wallin, Lancaster; and Sue (Darrin) Miles, Lancaster; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; his siblings: Robert Wallin, Prairie du Chien; Norma (Fred) Wagner, LaCrosse; Jim (Mary) Wallin, Mountain Home, Arkansas; Wilma (Clinton) Smith, Boscobel; his sister-in-law, Margaret Wallin, Sun Prairie; other loving relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marian Wallin; brothers, Thomas and Frederick Wallin; a granddaughter, Jessica Rose Johnson; sisters-in-law, Dolly Wallin and Gerri Wallin.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 15, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Sunday, October 14, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is serving the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Charles E. Wallin Memorial Fund has been established.
