Charles E. Vance, age 55, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospital in  Iowa City, IA. He was born on  May 29, 1953, at the Walter  Reed Hospital in  Washington, DC, the son of Charles and Alice (Atkinson) Vance. Charles graduated from  Gays Mills High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy. On July 30, 1988, Charles was united in marriage to Robin M. Eastlick at the Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, rural Cornelia. He was a lifetime member of the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of  Lancaster. Chuck dearly loved spending time with his children and family. He also loved to ride his Harley.

Survivors include his wife, Robin, Lancaster; his children: Ronnie Vance, California; Kari Vance, Kalamazoo, MI; Grant Vance, Lancaster; granddaughter, Hailey Vance, California; brothers and sisters: Gary (Patsy) Vance, Viola; Linda (Robert) Poyner, Santee, CA; Cheryle (Joe) Hesseling, Madison; Valerie (Gary) Hall, Logan, OH; James F. Vance (friend Laurie), Wausau; Jeffrey Vance, Janesville; and Brenda (Rick) Pavlovich, Winnebago, IL; step-father, Lavern Hill, Platteville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a nephew, Brandon Vance.

Funeral services were held on  Saturday, April 4, 2009, at  10:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Catherine Carlson officiating. Burial with military honors was in the  Mt. Zion Cemetery, rural Cornelia. Friends called on Friday, April 3, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until  8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home and from  9:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Charles E. Vance Memorial Fund has been established.
