Celestine Cornelius C.C. Winkler, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on May 5, 1936, the son of Celestine and Emma (Friesen) Winkler. Celestine Jr. lived his life in Potosi, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married his best friend, Viola Reuter, on September 3, 1955. C.C.was an extremely devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
As hobbies, C.C. enjoyed hunting and fishing. He joined the Potosi Volunteer Fire Departmentin 1960 and served as Chief from 1969 to 1985, when he resigned. He was re-elected Chief in 1994 until his retirement in 2002. C.C. waspassionate about the well-being of others and through his efforts a new Fire House was built, which serves the community and surrounding areas. C.C. was a respected member of the community and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Viola; his son, Tim and wife Ginny; daughters: Amy (Terry) Ziegler, Lori Steiner, Mona (Jeff) Wing; and many loving grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in the St. Andrew Cemetery, where there will be a U.S. flag presentation. The family received friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Luncheon will be served at SS Andrew-Thomas School immediately following.
