Catherine C. “Katie” Abing, age 87, of Tennyson, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Luther Manor in Dubuque, IA. She was born on November 16, 1936, the daughter of Nick and Loretta (Schardt) Timmerman. On May 27, 1958, Katie was united in marriage to Irvin A. Abing at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler. After their marriage, she raised her loving family. Katie enjoyed quilting, bowling, card clubs, going to coffee, and having her favorite shot of blackberry brandy. She was a devoted member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and a member of the CCW. Katie took great pride in the housekeeping of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She was also employed at the Plaza Motel in Dickeyville. Katie had a wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered for her mother-in-law’s dessert and banana bread. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Irvin; their children: Pat (Mark) Friesen, Kathy (Steve) Oyen, Kenny (Donna), Bob (Connie), Craig (Julie), Brian (Lisa) Abing; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way; a brother, Justin “Juddy” Timmerman; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Timmerman; many nieces, nephews, and members of the Abing family.
In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by her siblings: Hank (Margie), Joe (Irene), Jim (Joann), and Bill Timmerman, Celine (Homer) Schaefer, Rosemary (Harold) Oyen, and Carol (Pete) Kaster.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Mark Miller and Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Family and friends may call on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. where a 2:45 p.m. parish rosary will be prayed. Friends may also call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is entrusted with her care.
