Carl M. Edge, age 97, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Lancaster Care Center. He was born December 30, 1916, the son of Joseph and Amelia Etta (Spease) Edge. Carl was drafted in the U. S. Army from 1941 to 1945, during the American Theatre in World War II. He guarded the area of Peugeot Sound, WA and later served in Germany. On April 27, 1948, Carl married Eva R. (Vesperman) McKinstry at the Presbyterian parsonage in Lancaster. Together they farmed for over 54 years in Ellenboro Township. Carl was a member of Grant County Cattlemen Association, West Grant Saddle Club, Busy Badgers 4H Club, VFW Post 2344, Bethlehem E & R Church, and a lifetime member of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed his card playing at Zippys Brass Rail. Carl loved his family dearly and keeping up with their activities.
Surviving is his daughter, Karla (Joe) Schwantes, his step-daughter, Karen (Ernest) Noble, nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Bethel Edge, a brother-in-law, Jerry (Kathryn) Vesperman, and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Eva, a step-son, Dennis McKinstry, two brothers, Ray (Clara) and Paul Edge, three brothers-in-law, Ivan (Marcella), Paul (Lois), and Delbert Vesperman.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 7, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem E & R Church in Lancaster, with Rev. Mark Dieter officiating. Burial with military honors was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Thursday, November 6, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
