DICKEYVILLE - Cameron Ambrose Schaefer, 22, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI. Cameron was born on December 28th, 2001, in Lancaster, WI, to Amy (Mergen) Copeland and Shawn Schaefer. He graduated from Western Dubuque High School and then attended Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI, obtaining his Technical Diploma in Electrical Power Distribution. Cameron was a Maintenance Mechanic at East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizers in East Dubuque, IL, where he also enjoyed serving on the Emergency Response Team.

Cameron Schaefer, a radiant soul with a heart of gold, left an indelible mark on the world. His remarkable 22-year journey was a testament to his unwavering kindness, infectious humor, and unrelenting passion for life. With a spirit and a smile that could light up a room, Cameron touched countless lives through his generosity, empathy, and compassion. His love for family was boundless. An avid outdoorsman, Cameron found serenity in nature, cherishing moments spent hunting, fishing, and exploring the great outdoors. His loyalty to his canine companions Gauge, Whiskey, and Waylon was unwavering, and they brought him immense joy. Through his selfless organ donation, Cameron's legacy continues, inspiring hope, transforming lives, and giving the gift of life to others. His memory will be a blessing to all who knew him, and his impact will resonate forever. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for Cam including EMT’s, Doctors, Nurses, and Pilots from Grant Regional Health Center, Air Care, University of Wisconsin Hospital, University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation, and all the wonderful friends and family that supported Cameron’s loved ones during this very challenging time.

Cameron was deeply loved and fortunate to have two families shower him with love. He leaves behind parents: Amy and Jonathan Copeland (Peosta, IA) and siblings: Jonathan, William, and Owen; parents: Shawn and Sheila Schaefer (Potosi, WI) and siblings: Adryanna and Ryder; grandparents: Sheila and Duane Haas (Cassville, WI), Dan Mergen (Maquoketa, IA), Rusty Schaefer (Potosi, WI), Karen and Wayne Copeland (Mt. Morris, IL), and Tina and Steve Kropke (Huntley, IL); great-grandmother, Ruth Haas (Cassville, WI); and girlfriend, Jadyn Noonan (Potosi, WI).

Cameron was preceded in death by sister, Tegan Copeland (Peosta, IA); uncle, Chad Copeland (Dixon, IL); grandmother, Jackie Schaefer (Potosi, WI); and great grandparents: Glassmaker, Mergen, Schaefer, Tobin, Copeland, Barth, Kropke, Ryan, and LaVerne Haas.

Cameron's love for singing and music was evident in his favorite song, "Shine Bright Like a Diamond." His motorcycle adventures and joyful spirit will forever be remembered. Rest in peace, dear Cameron. Your love, laughter, and light will never fade.

Public services for Cameron will take place on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster, followed by a Celebration of Life from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Potosi Holiday Gardens in Potosi, WI. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family of Cameron Schaefer. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
