Calista Kick M. Schaefer, age 83, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, died on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born on October 24, 1925 in Potosi Township, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Kelly) Reynolds. Calista was united in marriage to Francis Mickey Schaefer on October 23, 1945 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1987.
Calista worked as a waitress for many years, mostly at the Dugout in Dickeyville. She was long time member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and an active member of the Potosi Township Historical Society. Calista especially enjoyed collecting history of Potosi and the brewery. She also was a member of the Quilters Club and made many quilts for her family. Calista enjoyed spending time with family and friends; her grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Calista is survived by nine children: Gary (Barbara Fingold) Schaefer, S. Deerfield, MA, Mark (Dar) Schaefer, Reedsburg, Alan (Sandy) Schaefer, Independence, Luann (Joe) Droessler, Potosi, Karl (Nancy Krasno) Schaefer, Efland, NC, Patrice Udelhofen (Eric Streicher), Madison, Amy (Patrick Mǜller) Schaefer, Wadsworth, OH, Michael (Valerie) Schaefer, Verona and Ron (Marcelita) Schaefer, Moore, OK; 15 grandchildren: Adrianne, Josh, Kylie, Sam, Abby, Erin, Hillary, Bryan, Jeremy, Alyssa, Jaedyn, Sydney, Jordan, Tyler and Trevor; three great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Jean Schaefer, Platteville, Anita Schaefer, Potosi, Dot Schaefer, Potosi and Lois Schaefer, Dubuque; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and an infant child at birth.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was held in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends were welcome on Monday, April 27, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 4:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Martin Funeral Home in Potosi.
Memorials were given to the Calista M. Schaefer Memorial Fund.
