Burnell McCartney, age 84, passed away on January 9, 2015, at the Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein, IA. He was born on May 20, 1930, to Frank and Ethel (Bisbach) McCartney. Burnell served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1952. He worked for American Family Life Insurance and the University of Wisconsin at Madison as a custodian. Burnell enjoyed fishing, craft making and working with beads, playing cards and shooting pool.
Survivors include his brothers: Douglas (Shirley) McCartney, Livingston; Delmar McCartney, Stoughton; Cletus (Charlene) McCartney, Oregon; sisters: Joetta Siegwarth, Clinton, IA; Joyce Yoeman, Potosi; a sister-in-law, Wilma McCartney, Lancaster; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Burnell was preceded in death by his brothers: Gerald and Robert McCartney; sister, Imogene Ehrler; two infant sisters: Ardith and Bernice; brothers-in-law: Harold Ehrler, Marlin Siegwarth and Ralph Kopp.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial with military honors was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
