Betty J. Baker, age 88, of Platteville, formerly of Lancaster, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Cancer took Bettys life, but not her spirit. She was born the second child of Jesse & Ina (Craven) Butson on April 10, 1925. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1942. Married Bill Baker in 1944 and they farmed many years. Betty worked at the Grant County Courthouse as a bookkeeper for 21 years. She enjoyed retirement and continued to stay busy by working at the Grant County Fair, and assisted with the elections in Platteville. Betty cherished many years at Lake Joy. She enjoyed playing cards & crocheting. Betty created handcrafted treasures for her family & friends. She was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church & Wisconsin Master Farmers Association.

She is survived by her daughter Shirley Brokopp (Wayne Welter), her children Susan Schoonover Sasek (Ron), Sheryl Brokopp, Scott (Stephanie) Brokopp, & Stuart (Meghan) Brokopp. Her grandsons Ben Baker & Bob (Jen) Baker. Also her special sister, Wilma Stanton, sisters Edna Ruth Relic, Ila Jean McKee, and her brother Clyde (Calista) Butson. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Vicki (Ron) White and their children, Brandi, Belinda Lyght, Brittany, & Bethany. Also her brother-in-law, Lyle (Marilyn) Baker.

She is survived by 10 great grandchildren & many nieces & nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Bill in 1991 & her son Steve in 1986. Her parents & in-laws Roy & Gladys Baker.

Funeral Services were held at 10 am on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Friends called from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home, 100 Park Place, Platteville, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Betty J. Baker memorial fund has been established.
