Betty A. Haberlie, age 69, of Lancaster, Wisconsin died on November 17, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, after a brief illness. She was born on March 22, 1940, in Lancaster Wisconsin, the daughter of J. Stanley and Retha (Jack) Noble. On October 10, 1959, she married James Haberlie in Lancaster, Wisconsin.
She was employed by Croft Shur-Save and then Dicks Supermarkets for over 3 decades before retiring in 2006. She recently has been involved in the Lancaster City Council and volunteered at the Thrift shop.
Her interests included playing cards with the card club, going to plays, drinking Kessler, finding deals, enjoying campfires, spending time with her grandchildren and family and laughing a lot. Her stories and humor will be missed by many.
She is survived by three children: Michael J. (special friend Donna ONeil) Haberlie, Lancaster; Vickie L. (Kurt) Streicher, Bettendorf, Iowa; and Jo Ellen (Jeff) La Grange, Milwaukee Wisconsin; seven grandchildren: Alex, Katie and Jamie Haberlie of Lancaster, Heather and Kyle Streicher of Bettendorf, Iowa and Foster and Anna La Grange of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Noble, Seattle, Washington and sister, Linda Noble, Lake Delton, Wisconsin, her brother-in-law, Jerry Moody, Belmont, Wisconsin; and her card club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Haberlie, her parents, J. Stanley and Retha Noble, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ed and Rose Haberlie, and a daughter-in-law, Joan Haberlie
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Sunday, November 22, 2009, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the church and from 10:00 am until the time of services on Monday at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home of Lancaster assisted the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Betty A. Haberlie memorial fund has been established.
