Bernice Salis, age 88, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, IL. She was born on July 20, 1920, in Burton, the daughter of Neils and Norma (Turner) Laugesen. On February 14, 1950, Bernice was united in marriage to Dawson Salis, who preceded her in death in 1983. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Burton, where she enjoyed quilting with the Burton Ladies. Bernice was also very active with many church activities. Early Spring was her favorite time of the year as she loved spending time in her garden and flower bed.

Survivors include her son, James L. (Pat Graham) Potter, Lancaster; her daughter, Donna Grassl, Marion, IL; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Potter, Racine; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Laugesen, Burton.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Bernice was preceded in death by a son, Roger, a son-in-law, Dick Grassl, and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Potter.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was in Hurricane Cemetery, South Lancaster Township. Friends were welcome on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
