Bernice D. Langkamp, age 95, passed away surrounded by her family in Janesville on Friday, July 12, 2013. She was born on April 7, 1918, in Belmont, the daughter of Walter and Stella (Martens) Riechers. Bernice attended Faulkton Public Schools, Faulkton, South Dakota, graduating from Faulkton High School with the class of 1936. In June of 1939, she moved back to Platteville where she was employed as a legal secretary for Kopp McKichan and Geyer law firm in Platteville. Bernice has been a member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Platteville since 1939. On October 19, 1942, she was united in marriage to Raymond G. Langkamp in Watertown, South Dakota. Later, Bernice was employed as an administrative secretary at the University of Wisconsin - Platteville, retiring in 1984.
Survivors include her son, James (Lynn) Langkamp, Janesville; her daughter, Marsha (Bernard) Hudson, Tarzana, CA; five grandchildren: Grant and Jamie Langkamp, both of Janesville; Karris, Torry, and Brandon Hudson, all of Tarzana, CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and members of the Riechers and Langkamp family.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Platteville with Pastor Jim Janke officiating. Burial was in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont. Family and friends called on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Platteville and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
