Bernard E. Chapman, age 77, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster. He was born on June 13, 1933, in Beetown Township, the son of Alvin and Gertrude (Pagenkopf) Chapman. On June 13, 1953, Bernard was united in marriage to Patricia Roesch at the E&R Church in Lancaster. Together they farmed in Beetown Township. In 1985, Bernard and Pat moved to Cave Creek, AZ. Upon his return back home in late 2010, he really enjoyed special visits with family and friends at the Lancaster Care Center. Throughout his life, he always enjoyed pursuing business ventures and traveling the world with his wife. Crosswords, coin collecting, and time at the blackjack table were some of his favorite pastimes. But most of all, he enjoyed time with his family. His proudest accomplishments include being a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Bernard is survived by his children, Greg (Kay) Chapman, Lancaster, Diane (Steve Purcell) Nelson, Great Falls, MT, Marcus (Missy) Chapman, Windsor, CO, Richard (Sue) Chapman, Seymour, WI, and Kathleen (Doug) Casten, Johnston, IA; his grandchildren, Sarah (Cam) Siedschlag, Emily (Dennis) Romero, Travis Nelson, Robert, Joshua (Jennifer), Jacob, Samuel, and Anthony Chapman; great-grandchildren, Janie and Mallory Siedschlag, Cassandra, Alexis, Dylan, and Eliana Romero, and Taylor and Dylan Chapman; and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat; and his parents.
At Bernards request, no public services will be held. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Bernard E. Chapman memorial fund has been established. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is serving his family.
