Barbara J. Richter

Barbara J. Richter, age 80, passed away peacefully and encircled by family at her home in Oregon on October 30, 2024. She was born on September 13, 1944, to Dorman and Modesta (Adams) Scott, and was raised on a 365-acre farm in Lancaster. Barbara graduated from Lancaster High School. She worked for Madison Newspapers.

Throughout her childhood she proudly shown angus, among other farm animals, at County Fairs. Later, Barbara passed down the passion of showing to her four children, whom she enrolled in 4-H Club. She also unconditionally supported her children in racing, band, boy scouts, and athletics. She truly embraced life through simple pleasures; canning vegetables from her garden, making beautiful bouquets of her flowers, baking homemade apple pies from her apple trees, practicing her faith, finding great company with her neighborhood family, capturing priceless pictures of her loved ones on road trips and camping trips, and photo booking. Barbara always made it known that her favorite times were among family at any given occasion.

She is survived by her children: Lisa, Daron (Kelly), Wayne (Jaime), and Brian (Kristine) Richter; grandchildren: Sara, Hailey, Alex, Rachel, and Braydon; as well as niece, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorman and Modesta Scott; sister, Shirley Murphy; and brother, Robert Scott.

A Mass of Christian Burial is on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Burial will be at Saint Clement Catholic Cemetery of South Lancaster Township. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
