Barbara A. Lomas

LANCASTER – Barbara A. Lomas, age 76, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Southwest Health Center, Platteville. She was born on August 9, 1941, in Mt. Ida Township, the daughter of Elton and Inga (Helgeson) Edge. Barb grew up on farms in the Fennimore and Stitzer area. She graduated from Fennimore High School in 1959. Barb graduated from Humboldt Airline Secretarial School in Minneapolis, MN, then began her career with Pan Am Airlines as a secretarial airline agent in New York City. In 1966, Barb moved to Florida and was a radiology receptionist at Lakeland General Hospital. In 1974, she and her family moved back to the area, eventually residing in Lancaster and became the office manager for Grant County Highway Department, retiring in 2004. Barb enjoyed fishing, bowling, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved keeping up with her family and their activities.
Surviving are her daughter, Valerie Argall; son, Gregg Lomas; three grandchildren: Vincent, Colton, Tristan Argall; three great-grandchildren: Hayden, Braeden, and Chase; her siblings: June (Dick) Johnson, Max (Mary) Edge, and Dana Gempler; a brother-in-law, Ray Kincannon; many nieces and nephews; her two cats: Maggie and Sassy.
In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by a beloved son, Scott; her sister, Vonda Kincannon; a nephew, Bryon Kincannon; her brother-in-law, Bob Gempler; and former husband, Richard Lomas.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster, with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial will be in Lima Union Cemetery, Lima Township. Family and friends may call on Sunday, January 14, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
