Arnold L. Brookens

Arnold L. "Arnie" Brookens, age 79, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on January 23, 1942, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Arnold O. and Laura J. (Ready) Brookens. Arnie grew up and attended school in Glen Haven and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1959. He worked with is father at DX Oil Company at the age of seventeen. On August 30, 1963, Arnie was united in marriage to Sharon Hore at the Lancaster Methodist Church. After their marriage, he was employed at Grant County Hospital in the kitchen for nine years. He was then employed as a purchasing agent at Loudspeaker Components, LLC for 20 years. Arnie worked for 17 years at Dick's Supermarket in the maintenance department. He enjoyed putzing and tinkering with cars, playing pool and Euchre, his plants, watching movies and television, and going shopping. Arnie dearly loved visiting with family and friends and his drives to Bagley and Glen Haven. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Sharon; their children: Robert (Katya) Brookens, Scott (Pam) Brookens, and Becky (Mark) Schemmel; nine grandchildren: Tyler, Sami, Anastasia, Jacob, Dylan, Emma, Mickey, Keith, and Teddy; other relatives and friends.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
