Arnold Arnie H. Schmidt, age 87, of Cassville passed away peacefully with family at his side on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the Lancaster Care Center.

Arnold Arnie Henry Schmidt was born to Gotlieb Henry and Gladys (Volden) Schmidt on May 24, 1925, in Desoto, WI. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bad Axe Lutheran Church. Arnie graduated from Viroqua high school. He met his future wife Martha Marie Stegne at a Luther League conference and later married in Viroqua on February 5, 1947. Arnie served his country honorably as a Merchant Marine during World War II. He started his career at Dairyland Power in Genoa and was transferred to the new plant in Cassville in 1951. Arnie built their beautiful home and landscaped the surrounding area with fish ponds, rock, flower and vegetable gardens for family & friends enjoy. He crafted and designed beautiful wood projects for his family and friends. Arnie was devoted to his family and friends who sought out his wisdom, insights and talents. He was a Cassville volunteer fire fighter and was a member of the Cassville St. Peters Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities. Arnie was proud of his Swiss/Norwegian heritage. Arnie will be dearly missed by his family and friends who loved to visit with him and share a story or two.

Arnie and Martha were blessed with 4 children, Jerry, John (Wynn), and their two sons: Zack (Kellie) Schmidt, Sam (Jess) Schmidt, of the St. Paul MN area; Melanie (Joe) Reynolds and their children, Jeannie (Kevin) Udelhofen , their two sons: Logan and Jase; Joey Reynolds and his two children: Alex and Lily; Jenny Udelhofen and her two daughters: Abriana and Andraya Errthum, all of the Potosi area and Annette Schmidt of Benton, WI.

He is also survived by his two sisters: Madonna (Richard) Tinker, Cherokee, IA, and Rebecca (Jim) Larson, Viroqua, WI, and their children.

Preceding him in death was his wife Martha, his sister Yvonne, his son Jerry, his parents, a brother-in-law Richard Tinker, several in-laws and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 6, 2012, at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial with military honors was held in Cassville Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville. Memorials are preferred to the Southwest Opportunity Center of Lancaster, the St. Peter Lutheran Church of Cassville, the Cassville Fire & Rescue, or a charity of your choice.
