Arland Lee Kurth, age 88 of Lancaster, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at home, on Saturday, September 24, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born April 23, 1934, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Earl and Dorothy (Swingley) Kurth.
In school, he enjoyed being on the basketball team and was known as the classiest dresser and always a gentleman. He worked for The Milwaukee Road while in high school and after graduation attended DeVry Technical College, earning his degree in electronics. Arland was united in marriage on August 15, 1954, in Savanna to Helen Marie Hillemann.
Moving to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and then later to Lancaster, he worked at Schwartz Hardware. In 1971, Arland went into business with Francis “Wizzy” Wissbaum and opened K & W TV Sales and Service. In 1981, he earned his private pilot’s license, loving the time he spent at the Boscobel Airport. Upon retirement in 1989, he worked briefly at Sabre Bus and Coach and later at Downtown Liquors for several years.
Arland was passionate about his woodworking and spent countless hours working with his scroll saw. He was incredibly talented, and his work was often gifted to others. In addition, all those who knew him received a Christmas ornament every year. He loved John Wayne and was known for his uncanny impersonation of the actor. Arland had a wonderful singing voice and loved to sing. He was known for his unique sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughters, Katherine Kurth of Milwaukee, and Debbie Kurth of San Diego; his former wife Helen Kurth-Olson; and brother, Bob Kurth.
Arland is preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Marie Kurth and both of his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Wisconsin, with Pastor Joel Kluender officiating. Burial will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
