Anita E. Funk, age 95, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. She was born on October 13, 1921, in Tipler, the daughter of Otto and Jennie (Anderson) Daumitz. Anita taught both in the public and parochial systems and became the first lay teacher at St. Clement School where she taught for thirteen years. Anita married Harold Funk and together they farmed for seven years. She also served as a bookkeeper for the family business, Funk Transport. Anita was a lifelong member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women. She loved to travel and solve puzzles and served as a volunteer at the Lancaster Meal Site.
Survivors include one son, James (Ellen) Funk, Lancaster; two daughters, Carol (Joe) Chulew, Fitchburg; Cheryl Funk, Plymouth, MN; five grandchildren: Michele Krupa, Christopher, Paul, Daniel and Jennifer Carl; twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; a brother, Redman Daumitz, Rockford, IL.
In addition to her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; two brothers: Chester and Richard Daumitz; one sister, Norma.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is serving the family.
