Anita E. McEachron, age 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, with family by her side.
Anita was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on April 7, 1924, daughter of George and Hilma (Adams) Newton. She graduated from Pittsfield High School, Pittsfield, MA, in 1942. She attended Berkshire Business College and was employed at General Electric CO., plastics division, in the payroll department.
Anita married her high school sweetheart, Bob McEachron, on September 25, 1943 at the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, MA and was with him during his tour of duty in the United States Air Force, except for the 14 months he served overseas. They lived in Austin, TX while he completed his degree at University of Texas and later moved to Clarendon Hills, IL. In 1958 they moved to the "country" on 10 acres outside of Downers Grove, IL. When urban sprawl and commercialization began taking over the countryside, they purchased a farm in North Lancaster Township, and moved there in January 1972. Anita was employed by Grant County Center on Aging and Department of Social Services for 16 years, retiring in May of 1996. In the early 1970's she was one of the original founders of Lancaster Christian Women's Club and served as the second Chairman. She was a member of the Bethlehem E&R Church.
She is survived by 6 children: Elaine (John) Witmer of Houstonia, MO, Susan Meiser (Bob Zygulski) of Elburn IL, Stephen (Anita) of Florence, AL, Wesley (Debbie) of Janesville, WI, Russell (Joyce) of Prairie du Sac, WI, and Roland of Lancaster, WI.; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-greatgrandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 52 ½ years in 1996, an infant son, Robert Jr., and a brother.
Private family graveside services were held at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. In lieu of plants and flowers, donations may be given to Bethlehem E&R Church, 354 S. Madison, Lancaster, WI in memory of Anita E. McEachron. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
