Allen Kussmaul, age 98, of Mount Hope, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013. He was born on February 25, 1914, in Eastman, WI, the son of Rudolph, Sr. and Emma (Allen) Kussmaul. On January 1, 1939, he was united in marriage to Dorris L. Lintner in Dubuque, IA. They were married 58 years until Dorriss death in 1997. Al and his brother, Rud, built up a seed corn business in Mount Hope, Kussmaul Hybrids Seed Corn.
His favorite past time was working. For the past 26 winters, Al made Pine Island, Florida his home. He was a very avid gardener. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, shooting pool, playing cards, and watching baseball and football. Al also had a book published at age 95, based on the diary of his travels at age seventeen. The book is Life on the Bum in the Early 1930s.
Al is survived by his daughters: Connie (Paul) Klinkhammer, Mount Hope, and Flynt Kussmaul, Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren: Stacey Martin, Bloomington; Andrew Lucas, Mt. Hope; Seth Kussmaul, Madison; and Ryan (Megan) Kussmaul, Patch Grove; and six great-grandchildren: Jake, Katie, Destoni and Andrea Martin, Kalyssa (Joe) Walsh, and Mason Kussmaul; and one great-great-grandson, Bentley; and special friend, Jean.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorris; his parents; his daughter, Susan Moravits; his son, Timothy Kussmaul; and his two brothers, Glenn and Rud.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington, with Rev. Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial will be in Hermitage Cemetery, Mount Hope. Friends called from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, February, 4, 2013, at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington and one hour prior to the service at the funeral on Tuesday.
