Alice M. Hill, age 72, of Platteville, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Southwest Health Center in Platteville. She was born on July 6, 1935 in Beetown, WI, the daughter of James and Melinda (Block) Atkinson. Alice married Lavern Hill on August 1, 1979 in Mt. Vernon, IL. She departed this life surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Alice was a member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary Post #5274 of Platteville and the 40 & 8 Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking cookies for her grandchildren and pies for her sons-in-law. She made quilts and craft items that were enjoyed by many. Alice also made dolls which made their way over seas.
Alice is survived by her husband, Lavern Hill, Platteville; eight children: Charles E. (Robin) Vance, Lancaster; Gary (Patsy) Vance, Viola; Linda (Robert) Poyner, Santee CA; Cheryle (Joe) Hesseling, Madison; Valerie (Gary) Hall, Logan, OH; James F. Vance (friend, Laurie), Wausau; Jeffrey Vance, Janesville and Brenda (Rick) Pavlovich, Winnebago, IL; a step-son, Alan (Toni) Hill, FL; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and the family dog, Teddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Grant and Leo Atkinson; a sister, Betty Gilbert and a grandson, Brandon Vance.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Reverend Michael Short officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends were welcomed from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 with a VFW Womens Auxiliary Service at 4:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Thursday all at the funeral home.
