Lancaster - Alice Mary Galer, age 98, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, in Lancaster, Wisconsin. She was born on February 5, 1924, on the Napp family farm outside Fennimore, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of John and Margaret (Draves) Napp. Alice graduated from Fennimore High School in 1941 and then attended Madison College in Madison, Wisconsin for one year. On May 17, 1947, she was united in marriage to Carl Galer at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple rented an upstairs apartment on North Adams Street in Lancaster before purchasing their family home in 1950 next door to the rental in Lancaster. Alice worked for many years at the Lancaster State Bank in customer service and upon retiring did a lot of volunteer work at Grant Regional Health Center, the Grant County Fair, and the Lancaster Congregational Church where she was a member for many years until her death. Alice’s abiding faith permeated every part of her being. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, swim classes, sewing, quilting and many other activities during her retirement. She was a very active person.
Survivors include her children: John (Phyllis) Galer and Mary Beth (Phil Schaeffer) Galer, grandchildren: Kara (Patrick) Prynne & Kyle Galer, great-granddaughters: Madeline, Paige, Ainsley, and Reece Prynne.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 1992, and her son, James in 2018. She was also preceded in death by her older brothers, Emery and Mark (Gayle) Napp.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. Noon at the Eckstein Building located at the Grant County Fairgrounds with Rev. Mark Dieter officiating followed by a luncheon. Private family burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the Eckstein Building. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
