Alfred August Dressler, 89, of Potosi, died Monday, September 14, at Southwest Health Center, Platteville.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi with Teri A. Hanson officiating. Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home, Potosi. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Berg Avercamp VFW Post #5276 and the American Legion Post #473, both of Potosi were held in Hurricane Cemetery, South Lancaster Township.

He was born on October 14, 1919, in Grant County, the son of William F. and Isabelle (Koeller) Dressler. He married Charlotte M. Yoose on November 11, 1950.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Charlotte; brother, Richard (Marilynn) Dressler ; son-in-law, William Durley; and brother-in-law, Ivan Yoose, all of Potosi; four grandchildren: Kathy (Dennis) Freiheit, Dallas, Texas, Cheryl (Eric Forsberg) Duvall, Hanover Park, Illinois, Randal (Terry) Durley, Leeds, Alabama, and Debby (Joseph Spillane) Durley, Cuba City; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Durley; brother, Bernard (Dolores) Dressler; and sister, Marie (Joseph) Sedbrook. For many years Alfie was known to area residents as the Skelly Oil delivery man for Kowalski Kieler, Dickeyville. He also was a rural mail carrier and school bus driver, and later served as head custodian for the Potosi Schools. A veteran of World War II, Alfred enjoyed woodworking, Euchre, and owned many fine automobiles. He is best remembered for his unwavering smile, cheery personality, and generous spirit.
