Adolph Vesperman, Jr., age 84, of Lancaster died Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Lancaster Care Center. He was born on April 17, 1925, the son of Adolph and Mattie Vesperman. Adolph graduated from Lancaster High School in 1943. He served stateside in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946. Adolph was united in marriage toIrene M. Heberlein on November 10, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. In 1956, Irene and Adolph moved to Lancaster. He hauled bulk fuel for Bailey Oil Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Lodge #86 International Order of Oddfellows and also a member of Richard Burns American Legion Post #109. Adolph was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster where he served as a deacon, elder and custodian. He enjoyed a good game of cards and watching the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers.
Adolph is survived by his wife, Irene, Lancaster; three children: Mick (Diane) Vesperman, Lancaster, Randy (Mary) Vesperman, Mazomanie and Amy (Dennis) Davis, Blue River; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Florence Heberlein and Norma Vesperman, both of Lancaster; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Harold Bud and Ralph; four sisters, Marie Sandleback, Leona McFall, Kathryn Lind and Ruth Ripp.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Friends called from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and plants an Adolph Vesperman Memorial Fund has been established.
We will remember Adolphs generous character and his never ending supply of chewing gum.
